Rorie & Adam’s Wedding at The Palm House

When you meet Rorie & Adam it’s immediately clear they are one of those uniquely beloved power couples who are all about celebrating life and having fun– so naturally they have a ton of great friends who care about them deeply– in fact, this was definitely the biggest wedding party I’ve ever worked with!  We had 28 people including the ring bearer and flower girl.  Intimidating for a photographer?  Yes, a bit!  Loads of fun?  Heck yes!  This was truly an example of “the more the merrier!”  After getting ready in Manhattan’s Grand Hyatt Hotel and shooting a sweet first look in the lobby and some photos of the couple with a sweet vintage Rolls Royce they were to travel in we loaded up into a party bus to head over to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens… about a 5 blocks into the journey I saw they had turned somewhere they weren’t supposed to- I called Rorie and discovered that sure enough something had gone wrong– in fact the Rolls was having trouble and they’d need to join us in the party bus… our driver swung back around and picked them up and onward we went towards our destination– the Palm House at Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, surely one of my favorite venues.  After battling heavy traffic and arriving later than expected we jumped right into wedding party and family group shots, catching up to the timeline so they could go rehearse the ceremony when scheduled.  Rorie & Adam then signed a beautiful Ketubah and with the weather being absolutely perfect they had their ceremony out under a big willow tree just a short walk into the gardens.  Guests were treated to a cocktail hour on the terrace before entering the glorious glass room that is the Palm House– and it was all decked out with purplish uplighting!  I love what they did with their tablescapes– incorporating beautiful driftwood and mercury glass candle holders with flowers and hanging crystals.  After a sweet first dance, an energetic Hora, and a very moving set of toasts, the band took the party to another level– and these guys weren’t messing around!   I was glad I had my ladder with me as it enabled me to get shots of the action from the perimeter of the floor when it was too packed to shoot from amidst the dancers.  It must have been so amazing for them to be surrounded by so much loving energy  from family and friends on their wedding day– I loved capturing the emotion at this incredible couple’s wedding day and it was just a joy to be a witness to this celebration!  Congratulations to Rorie & Adam– may the good times roll on between you for ever and ever!
