When David contacted me (from the U.K.) about his plans to surprise his girlfriend Kelly with a romantic proposal in Central Park while she was visiting the city with a bunch of her closest female relatives I was so excited to capture it for them! He coordinated with her mother and cousins to make sure they would pass over the Gapstow bridge between 12:30 and 1pm, and I planned to be there by 12:15 to get myself situated for the action. I get so nervous for proposals but it’s SO FUN to get to shoot these moments. David walked up to the bridge and tried whistling as he would to get her attention in a crowded area back home, but Kelly had no idea that he was even in town so when she turned and saw him at first she just thought it was someone who looked extremely like her boyfriend! Upon realizing it was really him she went for a hug and a kiss and then David went down on one knee and presented her with the signature blue box from Tiffany’s– where he then took her to select her ring! I got to document the whole experience for them and I must say, Tiffany’s was amazing. Having met with them earlier, David’s consultant Sarah took them to a private room and brought out Champagne and Tiffany-blue pettifores for them and then showed them a series of rings. The first one she was drawn to ended up being the one they went with and it is STUNNING! After selecting the ring we hopped in a cab and drove over to Times Square for another few quick portraits featuring the city where David proposed. I totally recommend this type of proposal to any fellas out there who aren’t sure what style their intended might like best– after all, she’s gonna wear the ring for the rest of her life!
