Jaymie & Brad are getting married in October at Fresh Meadow Country Club on Long Island and when we discussed possible locations for their engagement session Jaymie explained she’d had a longstanding desire to have a fun photoshoot down at Coney Island– what a great idea! I hadn’t shot there in several years actually and was curious to see what may have changed since Hurricane Sandy hit the area hard last fall. Well it turns out that Coney Island is open for business and in full effect– the beach was full of bathers, the parks are full of rides and everything was up and running at full blast. We met at the corner of Surf and Stillwell right there by the train station and our shoot was scheduled for the day *after* the famous Mermaid Parade— I was worried the place would be trashed but it seemed normal enough… in our whirlwind tour we hit some The Wonder Wheel, bumper cars, one of those crazy spinning rides, Jaymie won a stuffed animal in a shooting game on her first try (and promptly gave it to the little boy playing next to her), and explored the new “Luna Park” area as well. Of course we also hit the beach, and ate at the famous Nathan’s! Though it was a sunny June day at the end of a hot week the strong breezes coming off the ocean kept us comfortable and I enjoyed this shoot immensely. At the conclusion of the session we all enjoyed some melt-in-your-mouth fresh cotton candy. You gotta love Coney Island– definitely worth a visit if you’ve never been! Check out my favorites from their shoot below!
