Jim & Kate: Wet Knot = Tight Knot!

This past Saturday I drove down to Pennsylvania to the Glasbern Inn for the wonderfully intimate wedding of Jim and Kate. To our dismay it did indeed rain pretty much all day long, and it was colder than anyone would have liked, no doubt. But we made the best of it and even got some nice portraits “outside” by using the shelter of the tent that the Inn had just outside their reception.

I want to tell a little bit of Jim and Kate’s story because it is so SWEET… if I get anything wrong blame it on the toast-givers, who gave a delightful interpretation of this romance… basically these two knew each other as early as grade school– in fact one of the AMAZING toasts included a story about Kate beating Jim in an 8th grade spelling bee… apparently the fact that she was super-smart put him off back in the day (he was too and they had a competetive vibe!).. fast forward to a few years ago when people are getting onto facebook and somehow these two become connected–Friends, perhaps officially for the first time.  Kate kept asking him if they couldn’t meet up for coffee sometime and Jim was (i’m paraphrasing another tear-inducing toast) very hesitant to do so, because he “knew he would fall in love with her” and he was anxious to protect himself.  I know.  I know.  So finally she says, “what’s a girl gotta do?” and he gives in and meets her.  Coffee turned into hanging out turned into dinner turned into a very LONG evening indeed…  The rest, as they say, is history.

Needless to say these two make a fantastic couple– they radiate joy at having found one another and seem to have tons in common, both in terms of their interests and off-the-charts-brightness and in terms of their relaxed and roll-with-the-punches attitude.  I have really never seen a bride more calm and collected about a rainy wedding day, and that is very impressive to me!  As seriously as I take the pictorial potential of the wedding day, it is so much more important to me that couples can relax and enjoy themselves and revel in the presence of their family and friends.  The spirit of a couple like this shines through in pictures no matter what the backgrounds are…
