Fabiola & Paras: Engagement Portraits in NoMad / Flatiron

Fabiola & Paras are to be married in September at The Prospect Park Boathouse, a venue I haven’t been to in years and am so thrilled to get to shoot again.  For their engagement shoot we decided to capture them in the neighborhood “NoMad” (north of Madison Square Park) where they spent a lot of time in during the beginning of their relationship.  We met at the Ace Hotel’s bar on 29th street, a favorite of theirs, and walked toward the park, getting shots around the streets and with the Flatiron Building, etc.  Finally we took a cab downtown to get some of the cobblestone / treelined streets and the like down in the West Village where we concluded their shoot.  I am super excited for their wedding, it’s going to be a really fun one so check back in October to see photos from the big day!

Stefanie & Andy at Kittle House Inn

Stefanie & Andy were married on the beautiful grounds of The Kittle House, a charming historic hotel in Chappaqua, NY.  I arrived plenty early to scout the location– I’d never been to this venue, it was so charming!  I was delighted to find a giant tree and some overgrown areas to shoot in just below the grounds of the hotel down a gravel drive.  I started the day shooting the tail end of Stefanie’s preparation– she and her bridesmaids had the cutest matching robes, and I got to shoot some special moments as she read a letter from Andy and gave her mother a beautiful locket.  We took the couple outside for a first look and then out to the portrait spots I had in mind– I love what we got out there!  Just as we were getting a bit too hot to continue, the Maitre’D led us down to a wine cellar full of character that made for some sweet portraits (and was *much* cooler than outside too!).   Hailing from Georgia, Andy and his family brought some fun southern traditions to the wedding– for example, the groom dug up of a bottle of amazing bourbon (I could smell how awesome it was from 4 feet away!  No joke!) they had buried there for good luck with the weather!  During cocktail hour guests enjoyed a bean bag toss game, and later in the evening, guests enjoyed roasting mashmallows and making s’mores outside around a fire.  Everyone had a splendid time at this beautiful wedding and I couldn’t be more thrilled to congratulate this wondeful couple on their marriage.

Jamie & Max’s Wedding at The Village Club at Lake Success

Jamie & Max planned a big, beautiful wedding at The Village Club at Lake Success with the help and expertise of Jamie’s mother Cindy, who is a brilliant calligraphy artist specializing in wedding invitations and other paper pieces to fill out your wedding decor.  As the day approached it seemed likely to rain, and we got to the venue in plenty of time to scout and get plans and back up plans for the portraits no matter what happened with the weather.  I then drove over to The Inn at Great Neck where Jamie and her bridesmaids were hanging out and getting ready.  To my delight they were all in the most adorable matching pajama sets— their bridesmaid gifts of course!  So cute!  I just had to get a shot of Jamie & her sister (aka Maid of Honor) jumping on the bed in these cute pajamas… finally ready for first look, alas, it was raining— but the venue allowed us to shoot this special moment in the pretty natural light of the entryway to the club, protected by an overhang.  We shot the rest of the portraits and groups indoors, and then went upstairs for a Ketubah signing, to be followed by the ceremony downstairs.  Guests were treated to a fantastic cocktail hour while the catering team transformed the ceremony space into a reception room.  Jamie & Max came in to check it out and practice their first dance before they brought the guests in for a glorious evening of celebration.  I kept my eye on the weather outside hoping there might be a break in the weather, and although that didn’t happen Jamie & Max were willing to come outside under my umbrella for a quick rainy night-shot on the deck and I love the results!  As they say, “Wet Knot = Tight Knot”!  Congratulations, Jamie & Max!!!

Christine & Tom’s Wedding at The Roundhouse

Christine & Tom were married on a Saturday in June at The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls, a unique hudson valley venue comprised of a hotel, restaurant, and event space in a set of converted industrial old buildings situated around a beautiful waterfall in the heart of downtown Beacon, NY.  I got there early to set up my Photo Booth in the reception space, and then headed over to start shooting in Christine’s bridal suite where she and the bridesmaids were getting ready.  Though it was raining on and off, there was a silver lining for me in that the sky was so cloudy and even I could actually shoot the group portraits with the waterfall in the background— something that harsh directional sun from a bad angle usually prevents me from doing.  We were thrilled to see that the rain stopped just long enough for us to shoot the majority of the portraits outside, and luckily it held off until after the ceremony, which this beautiful couple was able to enjoy outside.  They included a sweet ‘time capsule’ ceremony and put special items in a box together during their ceremony— mementos and letters and a bottle of wine to be opened and read at a later point in their marriage.    After guests enjoyed a foodie-friendly cocktail hour (The Roundhouse caterers do not disappoint!) they entered the reception space, beautifully decked out with florals by Forever In Bloom.  Christine & Tom were just radiant all night, these two have a really special thing going on!  I was so honored and thrilled to be there to capture it all!
 Congratulations to Christine & Tom!

Greg & Dana’s Engagement Portraits in DUMBO, Brooklyn

Greg & Dana are getting married at Fresh Meadow Country Club on Long Island this coming September.  For their engagement portraits we selected the DUMBO, Brooklyn area for it’s waterfront views of manhattan & the bridges as well as the interesting and colorful textures and murals around this neighborhood, which is always a favorite for pictures.  I was delighted to show up and see that they were wearing splashes of beautiful vibrant color that I knew would play well with the bright beautiful artworks in this neighborhood.  These two are so sweet and cute together, I can’t wait to shoot the wedding!  Congratuations to Greg & Dana!
