Aviva & Jared’s Coney Island Engagement Portraits

Aviva & Jared are getting married this August at the lovely but lesser known venue The Wainwright House— I was so thrilled to book them as I’ve never had the pleasure of shooting there before and no doubt it will be a gorgeous location for a shoot, plus these two couldn’t be more delightful. Aviva is a lawyer and Jared is finishing medical school, so when they suggested Coney Island for their engagement portraits I couldn’t have been more thrilled– what better way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of their busy lives than a few hours at an amusement park by the beach! Though the weather was nice it wasn’t quite as warm as either Aviva or I had assumed so we were both a little chilly, but we made the best of it and I love what we shot. Check out this sweet, fun couple– my favorites were when they were sharing some cotton candy on the boardwalk. Who doesn’t love sugar?!

Laura & John’s Engagement Portraits: Upper West Side

Laura & John are getting married this coming October at Current, a beautiful new venue with water views over at Pier 60 on the west side of Manhattan. I was excited to book this wedding– not only is the venue exciting and beautiful but this couple is absolutely the sweetest. Just look at the way they make each other smile and laugh, it was such a breeze shooting with them.  We started the shoot at their place on the Upper West Side and walked towards Central Park, grabbing shots of this happy couple outside some of their favorite spots in the neighborhood and generally capturing the atmosphere of their neighborhood.  Once at the park we made our way to the sweet little bridge that John proposed on.  We couldn’t have asked for a more lovely day for this shoot.  Congratulations to Laura & John!

Jessica & Ross’ Wedding at Meadow Country Club

Jessica & Ross contacted me all the way from Texas when they were planning their wedding on Long Island for this April.  They planned their wedding carefully and beautifully with the help of Jessica’s mother, who was living closer to the venue, Fresh Meadow Country Club.  They did a fabulous job planning and the event was marvelous, featuring a plethora of white orchids, a fabulous Oscar de la Renta gown, and of course, Jessica & Ross themselves were beaming with love and happiness throughout the day!  I started upstairs with Jessica getting ready up in the bridal suite and brought her outside for a first look with her handsome groom.  The wind was a bit too much for us to continue shooting portraits outside but we gave it a shot (I mean it was seriously windy, you guys!) before heading back indoors.  The Chuppah area where they’d have their ceremony was beautifully decked out with white orchids and roses and a lovely crystal chandelier, so naturally I shot the couple and their group portraits with this as a backdrop.  Cut to a little while later and Ross is breaking the glass under this gorgeous Chuppah!  Their cocktail hour featured an amazing array of delicious foods from around the world— meanwhile the staff expertly transformed the ceremony room into a reception complete with dance floor.  The band kicked off this beautiful evening with gusto as Jessica & Ross enjoyed a first dance and a lively Hora—even their folks got in on the chair-lifting action!  Probably my favorite part of the evening was hearing the wonderful toasts made by their fathers, maid of honor, and best man— these were such a testament to the couple’s character and commitment to one another, it was moving and beautiful to get such a window into their lives together.  I couldn’t be happier for Jessica & Ross— congratulations on a beautiful wedding and the beginning of a fantastic marriage!

Sarah & Michael’s winter NYC engagement portraits

Sarah & Michael are getting married this spring at Buttermilk Falls Inn up in the Hudson River Valley. Since they live in Baltimore and Michael was busy all fall with his doctoral studies we had to wait until the chilly winter months to do their engagement session when they’d be in town to meet me. When Sarah told me about the dress she wanted to wear I knew it would look amazing in front of the main Library– so we agreed to meet there nice and early in the morning when I figured we might have a chance of shooting them on the steps without a crowd of people around. Sure enough when we got there not a soul was in sight. These two were so brave in the chilly winter weather, taking off Sarah’s coat here and there for some shots to show off her gold lace gown. We walked over through Bryant Park to Times Square and then hopped in a cab back to Grand Central to finish the session in a warmer indoor location. Congratulations to Sarah & Michael! I love what we shot and can’t wait for the wedding!

Marla & Lisa’s Wedding at Brooklyn Winery

Marla & Lisa planned their wedding to take place on a Saturday night during Channukah in the hip and cozy atmosphere of Brooklyn Winery, which was one of my favorite venues I shot at this year!  I was blown away by the style and sophistication of their fabulous winter wedding.  From the understated elegance of their dresses to the mismatched vintage china and antique silver serving pieces, this evening was a delight through and through. I arrived early to scout the indoors for portrait spots and was excited to take them back in the ‘barrel room’ and shoot amidst the Winery’s production area.  You guys have gotta check this place out if you’re in the area.  Great place for wine and cheese, no doubt!  Then we did a quick set of small group pictures before the couple signed their Ketubah with Rabbi Diana Miller– whom I knew I had worked with before and sure enough she also officiated for Rebecca & Julie a few years ago!  Guests were ushered into a beautiful ceremony space (later converted into a reception room) with a simply gorgeous Chuppah of white orchids and the Rabbi performed a candle lighting for Channukah before the processional began with a piano performance by Emily Golden.  I was deeply moved to see Lisa escorted down the aisle by Marla’s parents– they shared a beautiful moment at the Chuppah and went back to escort Marla down the aisle as well. Some of my favorite photos of the night were of her parents on the dance floor– look for them in the slideshow and you’ll know immediately what an amazing couple this is!  After a moving Jewish ceremony and a cocktail hour full of hugs and laughter the party was brought back into the main space to sit at long wooden tables and feast.  There was a stadium-style wave happening at the longest table– these guys were having a blast.  After dinner the party was moved back into the bar room for dancing and drinks.  I couldn’t have been more honored to capture this fantastic evening for these wonderful women.  Congratulations to Marla & Lisa!!!
