Brittany & Sean Engagement Session: Battery Park

Brittany & Sean are getting married next June at one of my favorite venues in the Hudson Valley, The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls. For their engagement session they wanted to capture the beauty of the southern tip of manhattan, which is where they live, so we met at the Bowling Green subway station and walked through Battery Park along the water up to their apartment building where we did some rooftop shots with their sweet little dog and then took her out for a walk to conclude the session. I loved so many spots we came upon during this session– this area is so interesting and full of great picture potential– I hope to revisit it again soon!

Melissa & Greg’s Wedding at The Palm House at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Melissa & Greg were wed on a Sunday under the most beautiful giant weeping willow tree in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens in a moving ceremony featuring vows they wrote themselves.  I started the day with Melissa and her bridesmaids getting ready over at a nearby hotel– check out their cute matching robes!  When I saw the colorful chairs on the roof I just had to take them up there for a some group pictures before they got dressed for the wedding.  Once the gals were ready we headed over to Brooklyn Botanic Garden to do a first look and portraits prior to the ceremony.  Melissa and Greg had written letters to one another and I was honored to capture this sweet moment where she read his note before they saw each other.  Other highlights of this beautiful wedding included a sweet candle-lighting during the ceremony, a great round of toasts to the bride and groom,  dancing thanks to the great music courtesy of DJ Rob Kelly, and I was excited to take my new velvety green background out for a spin in their photobooth!

EJ is almost 2 years old! Bryant Park portraits

Every time I get to shoot with Amy & Andrew I feel so lucky to have such awesome clients who not only appreciate my work but are just so fun to shoot with– I shot their lovely wedding at Housing Works Bookstore a few years back and have been so honored to get to shoot more for them as they grow their sweet family! Despite having moved first to Chicago and now Seattle they have always found time to schedule a shoot with me when they’re visiting NYC, and I’m always so thrilled to catch up with them! Their adorable son EJ is growing so fast, it seems like yesterday that we were doing maternity/anniversary portraits in Central Park, or their first family shoot down at Brooklyn Bridge Park!  Returning to Bryant Park for our 5th shoot together felt like coming full circle– the last time I shot them in this location they were engaged and now they are proud parents… Check out my favorites from our shoot…

Ruthie & Rob’s Engagement Portraits: Lincoln Center

Ruthie & Rob are getting married later this fall at Ink 48, a cool hotel in midtown Manhattan. I was excited to hear they wanted to do their engagement portraits at least partially around Lincoln Center– I’ve only shot there once before and just as I remembered it, it was a rich visual environment with lots of cool textures and graphic environments to use for backgrounds with this sweet couple. For variety we headed over to Central Park and after a round of great shots with some greenery we hopped in a cab up to the bar where these two actually met! I loved getting to have a beer with them and hear more about their memories of that first chance meeting. I can’t wait to shoot this great couple’s wedding– this fun-loving couple was clearly meant to be!

Heather & Keith’s Wedding at Basilica Hudson

Heather and Keith were wed at one of the Hudson Valley’s most unique and beautifully rustic large venues, Basilica Hudson in Hudson, NY.  We arrived plenty early in this sweet little town and had time to scout around the park nearby and get lunch downtown before heading to the bride and groom’s respective preparation locations,  sweet bed and breakfasts!  This wedding, like the town of Hudson, had massive charm!  After waiting for a rainstorm to pass we were treated to a rainbow as we walked out to the cars to head to the park for 1st look and portraits for the couple and family groups and sure enough the weather held until we were safely inside later.  Guests were treated to a cocktail hour upon arriving, followed by a tented ceremony and the reception itself.  I love the rustic industrial flavor of this location and we got a great big dose of loveliness at this wedding thanks to the beautiful work of Tammy Basten on event design and Steven Bruce Design on florals.  They saw the massive potential in this former-factory event space and created the perfect evening for Heather and Keith and their family and friends to celebrate in style.  A beautiful ‘sparkler exit’ for the couple was the perfect ending for this fantastic wedding.  Congratulations to Heather & Keith!
