Family portait session in Central Park

Beth is expecting her second child and contacted me for portraits– we determined that not only did she want to capture her pregnancy but that it would be great to do some newborn portraits after the baby arrives… so look forward to meeting their newest addition in a subsequent post– and it won’t be too long, either! For this session we met on the edge of Central Park near the family’s home so that we could capture them in the area they go for walks and play with their son, who is almost 3. Check out my favorites from this cute shoot!

Sarah & Jeff’s wedding at The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls

Sarah & Jeff had a beautiful modern wedding full of unique details up at the Roundhouse at Beacon Falls… Things that stood out to me immediately were the gorgeous handmade bouquets (they will last forever!) Sara commissioned from an artist on Etsy, and the fact that the couple DIY’d their lovely yet simple floral arrangements (several arrangements in various pretty bottles and vases in green and clear glasses positioned on lace doilies and pieces of wood on each table) by sourcing flowers from a local florist and arranging things on the tables themselves the morning of the wedding… They decided to have me shoot their wedding after seeing my work from other weddings at their venue– and though I’ve been there enough to have a mental list of all my favorite spots to shoot portraits I always want to give a couple something special and unique that I haven’t done before, so when we arrived early at the venue Ryan and did a little extra scouting around the nearby grounds and across the street and by am I glad we did…  I love the new spots I found with tall grasses and red vines to frame the couple, and we planned a cool night portrait from across the water that we could execute at some point after dark during the reception.  Though it was certainly a challenge (picture me and Ryan on speakerphone coordinating lighting power and his tripod placement, him being in total darkness 200 feet away across the water) I love that we nailed it, getting a shot that shows the couple embracing on the terrace while the building is reflected in the moonlight below on the still surface of the water at night.  Highlights of the day included this fun batch of bridesmaids getting ready with robes and silly glasses, the beautiful toasts by parents and friends, and some very moving readings during the ceremony.  It’s clear this is one great couple and I was so honored to be there to capture the memories of this important day for them and their sweet families!  Congratulations to Sarah & Jeff!

Laura & Rob’s loft wedding at Glass Houses in Manhattan

Laura & Rob planned a wonderful evening wedding with family and friends and delicious southern foods in a beautiful loft space called Glass Houses in Chelsea.  Thom Lussier, their renowned event designer, pulled together rustic yet elegant elements in the decor for the wedding, rendering a sophisticated but warm feeling to the whole affair.  After shooting their getting ready in a hotel I led Laura out to the street to meet her groom– what a great love these two have found!  I was excited to capture their excitement to be together walking along the street as we headed to Madison Square Park for a few nice outdoor portraits before the evening kicked off indoors at the event space.  Once we arrived at Glass Houses we shot the group pictures and then it was on to the ceremony on the 21st floor.  The rest of the evening was a whirlwind of amazing food, moving toasts, and sweet moments on the dance floor with this fantastic couple.  Congratulations, Laura & Rob, it was such an honor for me to capture this wedding for you and your families!

Marisa & Rob’s wedding at The Palm House

As Marisa & Rob’s wedding day approached it became clear that it was going to rain… and not just rain a little, but rain all day and all night.  The good news?  Their venue was one of the most beautiful spaces in New York City--The Palm House— which comes complete with access to the indoor garden and “climate” rooms of the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens– which are so lush I could get just as much portraiture with greenery inside as I could if it were a beautiful day outside on the adjoining grounds. I was delighted by Marisa’s unique long-sleeved wedding gown with lace details and a sexy low back– paired with Rob’s amazing velvet jacket these two were looking awfully sexy & sophisticated!  Highlights of the day for me included Marisa’s sweet tears during the ceremony their tight embrace after she spoke her vows, the way he lifted and spun her around in the middle of their first dance (that was amazing, Rob!!!), and Marisa’s mother’s poetic toast and the tears that followed.  Oh and also the surprise Groom’s cake was a major hit– the reactions to it were so fun to shoot!  Last but not least, my hope, knowing it would be raining all day,  was to get a chance to make the night portraits you see here in the gallery preview, and sure enough, at the end of the night when I approached the bride and groom they were totally game to come outside for a few minutes and pose for me… I love how these shots turned out and for me it was a little dream come true to have such a fun couple willingly step outside under my big clear umbrella on a dark rainy night–I have brought it along to so many weddings in hopes of having this very opportunity but circumstances never came together until this wedding!

Brian’s proposal at the Top of the Rock!

Brian planned a wonderful surprise proposal to his beloved Melissa at the Top of Rockefeller Center– but the surprise didn’t end there! He had arranged for her whole family to come down and meet them there too! After surrepticiously capturing the main event I introduced myself and then captured the family congratulating Melissa… we did some family group shots and I took Brian and Melissa for a quick round of ‘just engaged’ portraits as we exited Rockefeller Center and reunited with the family for one last group shot in front of the ice skating rink with the building up behind them. What a lovely saturday!
