Laura & Axuve’s Brooklyn Engagement Session (with bonus kittens!)

Laura & Axuve were guests at Amy & Andrew’s sweet wedding a few years ago and remembered loving a photo I took of them during the reception… cut to a few years later and they’re engaged! I was so honored by this booking– they were so sure they wanted me that they asked me for availability before even booking their date at the venue, which really blew me away! I knew they’d be super fun to shoot with and our session proved it so– since they are proud parents of some happy growing kitty-cats and didnt’ have any family pictures of the 4 of them together we started the session at their apartment in Park Slope… it was so funny trying to get these little balls of energy calm enough to sit still for a portrait and they were super curious about my camera–we ended up getting some great action shots of them playing too. After changing into their walk-around outfits we stepped outside and made our way to Prospect Park for some shots there, stopping along the way as we walked down pretty treelined streets full of brownstones. To finish the session they wanted to get the Brooklyn Bridge in a few shots so we hopped in a car to Dumbo and made it just as the sun was going down and the lights were coming on in manhattan– even though it wasn’t one of those gorgeous sunsets we always hope for as photographers I love the results with the pretty twinkling lights on the bridge…check out my favorites from the session!  I can’t wait for their wedding at The Hammond Museum in June!

David’s surprise proposal to Kelly in Central Park

When David contacted me (from the U.K.) about his plans to surprise his girlfriend Kelly with a romantic proposal in Central Park while she was visiting the city with a bunch of her closest female relatives I was so excited to capture it for them! He coordinated with her mother and cousins to make sure they would pass over the Gapstow bridge between 12:30 and 1pm, and I planned to be there by 12:15 to get myself situated for the action. I get so nervous for proposals but it’s SO FUN to get to shoot these moments. David walked up to the bridge and tried whistling as he would to get her attention in a crowded area back home, but Kelly had no idea that he was even in town so when she turned and saw him at first she just thought it was someone who looked extremely like her boyfriend! Upon realizing it was really him she went for a hug and a kiss and then David went down on one knee and presented her with the signature blue box from Tiffany’s– where he then took her to select her ring! I got to document the whole experience for them and I must say, Tiffany’s was amazing. Having met with them earlier, David’s consultant Sarah took them to a private room and brought out Champagne and Tiffany-blue pettifores for them and then showed them a series of rings. The first one she was drawn to ended up being the one they went with and it is STUNNING! After selecting the ring we hopped in a cab and drove over to Times Square for another few quick portraits featuring the city where David proposed. I totally recommend this type of proposal to any fellas out there who aren’t sure what style their intended might like best– after all, she’s gonna wear the ring for the rest of her life! Check out my favorites below.

Chrissy & Tom’s Bookstore wedding in SoHo

I loved shooting Chrissy & Tom’s sweet bookstore wedding this past Saturday– Housing Works Bookstore continues to be one of my favorite best-kept-secret wedding venues! And what a treat to shoot getting ready and first look / couple portraits with the couple at the stylish Mondrian Hotel just down Crosby Street. Chrissy was stunning– I didn’t even recognize her at first as I peered into the room expecting to see her on a chair with a makeup or hair artist working on her but it turned out they had finished early (unusual!) and she herself was opening the door for me! The emotion of the day finally hit her as we went to make a portrait of her by the window’s light and you could feel just how much love and excitement there was for this couple to wed. Ryan went outside to meet Tom and prepare him for the first look, which we did outside. I am quite taken with the courtyard they have there– check out the pretty shots of Chrissy & Tom under the lights they have strung up outside in front of the hotel– some of my favorites were shot right there. After a quick round of shots with them in the fabulous lobby area we did a portrait walk through some surrounding blocks on the way up to the Bookstore where we met their family for group shots before the ceremony. I love getting these out of the way before the ceremony so as to free the couple up to enjoy their cocktail hour with their guests right afterwards, rather than being whisked off and posed in a series of groups while everyone is wishing they could hug and congratulate them… Housing Works is such a warm and unique atmosphere for a wedding– officiant Stephen Dym did a lovely job with their ceremony and I love the way the florist’s work added elegance to the tables yet maintained the personality of the space with simple burlap runners on the long tables. After some sweet toasts the couple made their way to the dance floor where strings of edison lights hanging between the balconies (bonus shooting angles!) added a twinkly air of celebration. We concluded the evening with a quick night portrait outside on the cobblestones of Crosby Street. I was so honored to be a part of this wedding and I hope Chrissy & Tom will enjoy their photos as much as I enjoyed making them.

Theo’s Newborn Session at home with Stephen & Jess

I was so honored when Jessica & Stephen asked me to come over and shoot some newborn portraits with their beautiful baby Theo!  I shot their wedding last summer and we were in the middle of finalizing their album order when Jess gave birth to this perfect little boy… couldn’t have had a sweeter session– after looking around we decided to shoot him on a blue blanket knitted for him as a baby gift, and later nestled in a pretty bowl that had been a wedding gift to Stephen & Jess. I used some flowers that were in the apartment to complement the little scene and got a bunch of cute angles on Theo after he settled into a deep sleep. Check out some of my favorites from the session below…
