This week I found out I won another Bride’s Choice Award from the vendor-reviews site WeddingWire.com! This means so much to me because it’s only given to the top 5% of wedding photographers and the criteria they use to determine that is your reviews from actual clients. I am proud to say I have a 5 star record and have gotten this award for 3 years running now. If you’re a prospective client curious to read some reviews of my work do stop by wedding wire and check me out!
Jenni & Brandon are one of those couples that you just know were meant to be together. They had such a fun energy in their engagement session I couldn’t wait to shoot this December wedding at the amazing Palm House at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Highlights for me were the emotion and excitement I was able to capture in Jenni & Brandon during the ceremony processional… when Jenni said “I do” she jumped up and down really quickly and it was probably the cutest thing I’ve ever seen a bride do at a wedding… and their friend Ellie did an amazing job as officiant, he could marry people professionally, no kidding! It was really beautiful how happy these two were to be tying the knot. Since everything was basically after dark (though I did manage to take some of the flowers and details outside before the sun went down while we were waiting for Jenni to arrive) and Jenni really wanted Brandon to see her in her dress for the first time when she walked down the aisle we did our formal portraits indoors quickly following the ceremony during the cocktail hour and I love what we got inside the conservatory rooms–especially my wedding party group shot in “the desert”! I am always impressed with the Palm House’s excellent staff and execution, they are really on top of their game, and this wedding was no exception. I was also thrilled to see that Jenni & Brandon had hired Colleen Crumbcake of PopShop! to DJ for them– she always brings out an enthusiastic energy on the dance floor without playing the same old wedding standards. Speaking of the dance floor, lemme tell you, Jenni & Brandon (and their awesome friends) sure know how to get down! I couldn’t get enough of shooting this crowd, there was so much fun happening everywhere I looked. Congratulations, Jenni & Brandon! What a wedding!!!

Michele & Jawara had their wedding at lovely, spacious, and unique space (only a few blocks from my studio!) known as The Metropolitan Building. My assistant and I arrived early and got to work shooting the details — the amazing Jenah Barry was there putting finishing touches on the gorgeous flowers and decor they had prepared for this wedding. This is a big loft building with open areas, long banks of windows, and tons of antiques and furniture one could describe as shabby chic, or perhaps just “vintage” would cover it– in any case, it’s very cool place to have a wedding and doesn’t need much dressing up– if someone like Jenah works her magic with flowers here you’re all set! When Michele arrived we joined her upstairs for getting ready shots in one of the many cool areas of this building that I was thrilled to utilize for photographs. After sweet first look in a pretty spot I took them to a few the building’s most interesting spots for portraits of them as a couple, and then we went through their list of family groups and prepared for the ceremony, which would take place in this lovely open area with distressed green wooden floors, decorated that day with pretty paper garlands hanging up around the room’s central chandelier. After tying the knot, we captured the rest of the evening in documentary style with some nice off-camera lighting when appropriate. Everything went off without a hitch thanks to the excellent planning by Leah of Green Apple Weddings! I just love this venue, it was a delight to shoot there again and I truly hope to be back again soon! Congratulations, Michele & Jawara–it was a night to remember!

Lara and Nicole are getting married at The Green Building in Brooklyn next August. I was tickled to hear about what they have planned, but I won’t give anything away. Note: there WILL be a photobooth! YAY! During their consultation for wedding photography I got to hear the romantic story of how Lara & Nicole have been enthusiastically exploring the city together ever since Nicole moved here, and the tear-inducing story of the time they were at the 24 hr Post Office and sat down to compose love letters to each other… There were so many meaningful spots in their history together that they wanted to capture in their engagement portraits I was pretty sure we couldn’t fit it all in my standard session, so they decided to extend the shoot an extra hour so we could make our way down to DUMBO and get the waterfront stuff too. I loved shooting with this sweet, stylish couple. Their wedding is sure to be a fantastic event, and I just can’t wait to shoot it!

Johanna & Greg fell in love with the Beacon area and they took a risk when they booked their wedding at The Roundhouse, which was still in construction at the time– but it paid off beautifully! They saw the amazing potential of this new wedding venue and the drawings of what the space would be like were enticing. The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls opened this September, so Johanna & Greg were one of the very first couples to be married here! I arrived early and began shooting Johanna’s preparation and bridal details– Jeff went with the fellas to shoot Greg getting ready and then we brought these two together outside for a first look. After a quick round of portraits in some pretty spots we found we headed back to the Roundhouse to do family groups indoors followed by a Ketubah signing and Bedekken prior to the guests entrance into the ceremony space. The vows Johanna and Greg wrote said it all and the smiles they shared on their wedding day were so full of joy. I was so honored to be a part of their wedding– after the craziness of the weeks prior (Hurricane Sandy and the ensuing difficulties in the area) it felt like everyone present was really ready to let loose and celebrate something for a change! There was a wonderful release of sorts going on at this wedding, and it was exciting to be there. One thing I loved about shooting here was that you could get some really great angles from various points on the staircase that leads down into the main room. This came in especially handy during the Hora dance, which I usually stand on my little ladder for, but being able to get up even higher was fantastic! Everyone involved did a fantastic job– the flowers, the catering, the band, it all went very smoothly and I must complement the Roundhouse team on their amazing venue, it is beautiful and unique and I certainly hope to shoot there again! Congratulations, Johanna & Greg!
