Newborn Portraits at home with Jordan!

Dana was a bridesmaid at Alex & Michelle’s wedding and I was so thrilled when she got in touch to schedule newborn portraits with her first baby, Jordan!  He’s just two weeks old so it was a real honor to be invited into their home– and what great light they get in their place too… I’m just loving some of these shots I got.  Couldn’t wait to share them!

The Wedding of David & Christine

David & Christine met at the children’s coloring book table at a wedding, where they discovered they were both heading to Burning Man that summer.  They planned to meet there at the foot of the Man at 2 O’clock on Tuesday, and spent the rest of their burn falling in love, and the rest, as they say, is history.  I was lucky enough to camp with them at the 2008 Burning Man– and these two know their way around a campsite!  They are fantastically kind and generous people, and are clearly perfect for eachother.   When I found out they were engaged to be married I was so excited for them– I knew their wedding would be amazing and unique but I never could have imagined what they put together.  Needless to say I was totally honored when they asked me to be their wedding photographer– they were planning to be married at Leu Gardens in Florida, and of course it’s not every day that a couple offers to fly me across the country to shoot for them so this was a bit of adventure for me.  I found a great 2nd shooter local to the area and everything went smoothly!

They infused their wedding and the amazing after-party at their house with true Burner spirit:  as favors, guests received a key to their home (“You’re Always Welcome In Our Home”), and instead of a guestbook, friends and family were asked to plant a little succulant into a boxed arrangement that will live on with Christine and David.   The ceremony featured the couple actually welding two pieces of a heart sculpture together rather than exchanging rings.  Christine wore an amazing custom made multicolored gown by a Seattle designer paired with some unique shoes she loved.  There was a fireworks display and acrobatics performance to entertain the after-party guests, along with open hot-tubbing, all-you-can-eat grilled cheese sandwiches, and S’mores around the fire-pit in their back yard.  The “dome” they’ve used for many a trip to Burning Man was set up in the back yard with a laser light show projected inside for folks to enjoy.  Guests were encouraged to camp in their big back yard during the long weekend, and many did, enjoying both the yard’s lake view as well as the amazing company!  David & Christine, you are a truly special couple and I’m so happy I was there to capture the festivities of this amazing weekend for you– Congratulations!!!

Adam & Shireen are parents! Baby Nathaniel at Central Park…

Way back in the fall of 2010 I shot a sweet little wedding at Housing Works Bookstore for Adam and Shireen— it was my first wedding at the venue, which has become a favorite of mine lately… little did I know at the time, Adam and Shireen were planning to have a baby ASAP!  It’s been a year and change now and here is little Nathaniel! I was so excited to have an opportunity to make portraits of him and their adorable new family together in Central Park near where they live. They’ll be packing up for New Jersey in the next few weeks so I got this session in the nick of time. Cold as it was we made the best of it and I actually think little Nathaniel looks pretty cute all bundled up in his full-body-sleeping-bag-onesie type thing… Here are a few of my favorites from our walk in the park.

Sarah & Jaime’s Engagement Portraits

Sarah & Jaime are getting married this May at a country club in New Jersey– which will be a perfect spot to host a big fun wedding like theirs (10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen! Now that’s what I call a wedding PARTY!) Being long time New Yorkers and West Village residents they were hoping for me to capture some more urban engagement portraits that would depict their love for the city and portray them in their typical environment. I suggested we do their session down in DUMBO because it offers a little of everything– some cobblestone streets like you’d find in the West Village, the Manhattan skyline and the bridge views down by the water, your typical urban street backgrounds but with less crowded sidewalks, and of course a little nature here and there too, which I always like to include if possible. We wanted to nab some portraits before it got too much colder– I had them take off their coats in some shots and they were total troopers about it. I think it was worth the chill– Congratulations, Sarah & Jaime!
