Jim & Joni: A New Year's Day Wedding!

Jim contacted me right around Christmas to inquire if I could shoot a small wedding ceremony on 1/1/11! Luckily I was going to be back in town after visiting my family and I thought surely shooting a wedding on the first day of 2011 would be great way to start the year. Jim and Joni were visiting from Ohio and had their children gathered in attendance, some simple bouquets and dinner plans to celebrate! Through a friend of the family they were able to have their ceremony inside the lovely Marble Collegiate Church on 29th Street with a wonderful minister and organist– which still had it’s gorgeous holiday decorations up. It was a quiet and moving ceremony– these two are clearly thrilled to be joining together in marriage, and I was honored to document the ceremony and create some sweet portraits for them to remember this time in NYC with.  Here are some favorites…

Isn’t this church just marvelous looking?

I snapped this last one as Joni was looking at her marvelous new wedding band, showing her son how it hugs her engagement ring.

Puppy Portraits with Buster 'n' Family

My friends Alex and Christina recently adopted a new puppy named Buster. He’s simply so adorable we had to do a shoot with him– just in time for the holidays. Enjoy some of my favorites below…

I desperately wanted a shot of him with both paws up on the brim of this top hat… however, as you may have guessed, puppies are not yet trained to stay still, and are also quite excitable– particularly when in new places.  Being in the hat was not his idea of fun, so this was the closest shot I got to my vision… on to the couch.

I love the shot above.  I’m amazed I caught him mid-air in focus… well done, Sarah!

I love these photos, Buster so cute! His parents are adorable too!

Halloween snaps… personal photos.

These are just some personal images I shot on a night out with friends celebrating my friend Alex’s 30th Birthday… and, of course… halloween! Alex has been enjoying a great year after his film Alice Jacobs is Dead won for best horror film at San Diego Comic Con.  A bunch of our friends dressed up as Alex (various incarnations… zombie Alex, college Alex, high school Alex, etc)… and we ate at a delicious mexican fusion place that had a special deal on unlimited sangria. They had a BUFFET table full of sangrias to try with various fruits/rums/wine combos… oh it was delicious. I wish i’d photographed those sangrias actually as it was a sight to behold. Good times were had by all.

These are just some fun shots from dinner and cake at Alex’s apartment afterwards where we got to meet his brand new puppy (who is adorable, and may have to have a private studio portrait session soon!) and lastly I just had to share these strangers who were going crazy dancing to the band playing in union square station on my way home.  Those are the moments that remind me how much I love New York.

Jeff, with his Alex glasses on (Above) and the real Alex, below..

Jeff’s wife Una (above) is something of a minor celebrity herself.  See her hilarious blog here.

mmmmmm… cake.

We kicked back for a viewing of Alex’s latest project, a short film he edited (who was the director?  oh, you know, just TERRY GILLIAM!)

And finally… on my journey home I had to get my camera out for this little rendevous in the union square station:

Kitschy Christmas Family Portraits… 2010!

Last year I did this awesome concept shoot with Addie and her family– she made some hilarious holiday cards to mail out and it was a huge hit with everyone… she also bought some amazing looking framed and canvas wall-pieces to decorate her apartment and give as holiday gifts! SIDENOTE: For those of you who may not be aware, I do offer some really cool ways to show images in the home– lately i’m a big fan of METAL and acrylic prints (they look very modern and artistic and the colors just really pop– you’ve probably seen photography face-mounted to “plexi” or acrylic in art galleries… metal is just a way of printing images onto a brushed aluminum substrate such that the texture and gleam of the metal just comes through enough to look really cool!)– Anyway I was totally psyched when Addie said she wanted to do more kitschy family portraits for her card this year– I’m in favor of this tradition! The challenge was how can we top what we did last year? Well for starters I brought in this fly background (it’s a velvetine patterned to look like woodgrain, and yes, it’s gonna be my new favorite thing for photobooth setups at weddings and events. These guys showed up with personalized red longjohns and a couple of big wrapped “presents” and the dogs in tow… Ok, so you wanna see my favorites? Yes. You. Do.
